Elizabeth Newman, Psy.D.

Dr. Elizabeth Newman has a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications, a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology, and a doctorate in Psychology. She graduated with the honors of magna cum laude from California Southern University. Her degree as a Board Certified Coach was earned at the College of Executive Coaching. Dr. Newman is trained in the practice of Reiki and is an advanced Reiki practitioner with a certification from the Nirvana Healing Center. Dr. Newman is also skilled in hypnosis with formal training of the practice from Million Dollar Meditations in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Dr. Newman is a member of the American Dance Therapy Association (ADTA) and has completed dance therapy intensives at the Life is Movement Institute in Berkeley, California, the Harkness Dance Center at 92Y Lexington Studios in New York, New York, and the Embodying Psychotherapy Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Skilled in a wide range of dance movement therapy practices, her expertise includes the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), substance abuse and addiction, and dance therapy for children. Dr. Newman specializes in the treatment of childhood PTSD, adult PTSD, personality disorders, neurological and developmental disorders, divorce and relationship recovery, ADHD, couples and family therapy, intimacy challenges, and women’s issues and empowerment.

Dr. Newman believes in the power of wellness through creativity and positive energy and has devoted her coaching practice to the study of mindfulness, spirituality, and the creative arts and their relation to the productive mindset. Dr. Newman has served as a therapist at Community Health Awareness Council (CHAC) in Mountain View to provide counseling to individuals and families. She was staffed as the on-site counselor at Loyola Elementary School during her internship at CHAC. As a member of the Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) for the YWCA Santa Clara Valley, Dr. Newman provided support to victims of assault at court hearings, local hospitals, and police stations. Dr. Newman is proud to be an instigator of change for women’s rights.

In her spare time, Dr. Newman enjoys writing and teaching cultural dance. She is the mother of four teenagers. Her oldest son is enrolled in a prestigious graduate program through West Point Military Academy. As a published author and psychology professional, Dr. Newman’s books and recommendations have been featured in The Huffington Post, Our USA Magazine, Bustle- a digital magazine for women, Fupping Media, and Her Campus.
